U.S. House honors Indian pilot Smit Machchhar for stopping flydubai hijack attempt

The U.S. House of Representatives passed a resolution honoring Indian pilot Smit Machchhar for foiling a terrorist attack on flydubai Flight 1073 from Dubai to Tel Aviv.

Lawmakers Josh Gottheimer, Don Bacon, and Michael McCaul introduced the bipartisan measure.

The resolution condemns the attack as an act of terrorism and commends Machchhar alongside the passengers who stopped the hijacking.

Machchhar suffered a depressed skull fracture while confronting the attacker on board the flight.

For Indian-origin families and aviation professionals, the U.S. Congress has formally recognized an Indian commercial pilot's actions and severe injuries sustained during an inflight attack.
